The City Park Tennis Club was founded in 1928 by a group of men who played tennis at City Park and who decided to approach the City Park Board of Directors about leasing three courts for club use. The board approved and the club was officially organized. The late Bill Macassin was elected the first president.
Over the years, the Club has played on three different surfaces, starting on tan colored clay, red brick dust, green rubico and the present green har-tru courts. The har-tru is similar to the rubico except it is continually watered from below the surface instead of by sprinklers.
(NOTE): Many of you may have noticed variances in the moisture content of the har-tru courts while maintenance is in a learning curve adjusting the water levels for optimal results. Adjusting the water levels is a slow process of trial and error that can require as much as 24+ hours between adjustments to see the results. So let us be patient since even with the variances I think most of us can agree the overall condition of the new courts are an improvement from the old courts.
